Harajuku

On the third day of our 'Better Know Your Tokyo' trip we set out to explore Harajuku.
It's considered the trendsetting district and not just in Japan.... for the international jet set this is the place to shop and see what's hot first!
I was so overwhelmed! It was 'cute, cute, cute overload'...... I wish I had known what to expect! Budget wise, I hadn't planned for mega shopping, so we just browsed like crazy and started filling up our wishlists. Next time around I could end up in serious trouble! They have five stories of H&M and five stories of Forever 21 right next to each other......and that just for starters....OH MY!

At first sight Takeshita-Dori looked like the crazy-funky-bizarre strip I had heard about, but once inside the shops......you could find wearable fun jewelry and clothes. As long as you didn't do a head-to-toe look in outrages pieces..... just kept it safe with one stand out piece.......

Max found his!
Too Much...?

It may depend on who your asking!

I tried to talk Mark into this bad boy......
he didn't think he had the right outfit for it.

Takenoko was our favorite.
It's the place to go when you need a 'show girl outfit' for that special night out. I haven't 'hit the clubs' yet while in Japan, but now I'm really curious.....
If it means I could pull off a couple of these numbers, I might just have to try it!

Turns out Max is quite the accessories guy..... he spent 30 minutes in a Gothic jewelry store looking for just the right ring, the kind he could wear when performing his magic tricks.
(I don't know if I've mentioned that he is a Magician in training.....not only does he spend countless hours on YouTube learning magic tricks, but he's ever on the lookout for wardrobe options) I encourage this..... he could make 'bank' at children's Birthday parties one day. ;0)

Another side note: Voodoo.
Max came home from school one afternoon and asked if Voodoo was satanic.
Apparently, it came up in class (somehow..?) That a Catholic priest got in trouble for saying that God had caused/sent the earthquake in Haiti because most of the people there practice Voodoo. Max had good questions about this...... but I have a better one........What kind of conversations are they having in class?

Anywhooooooo.............this leads up to his excitement when he found an entire wall full of multi-colored voodoo dolls! Cute voodoo dolls, but apparently "just what he's been wanting!"

Lillian was overwhelmed, but found a full rainbow range of hair extensions she "always wanted." There crazy! We'll have to do a full 'Harajuku look' to do them justice..... we'll post that later.

I think Tobias is developing a thing for Asian girls.
At the Child Development Center (where he goes for a couple of hours each week) he has an obvious crush on his very pretty Japanese teacher......
but then he saw HER......and she was just the right height!
(I'm not kidding, I didn't even ask him to pose for this picture, I just looked over and he was putting the moves on ;0)

We walked blocks and blocks and enjoyed the shops and shops. The Audi Building was a stand out....How cool is this?

Nike Town was pretty awesome too!

Towards the end of the afternoon we were scraping together our Yen for 'The Worlds Best Crepes'

What I'm finding is, that while I want to pack in the fun, my feet are FINISHED by 5:00pm.
I hate heading back to the hotel so early, but the kids are pretty done by then too.....time for the pool!
Did I mention Lillian lost her first tooth? (It dangled and twisted for two weeks, but she wouldn't pull it out. Then one bite into her banana and it was GONE! She swallowed it!) It didn't phase her.... she just wanted to know how she would get her money? You know how this story could end................ so I just gave her a dollar.

These trips are addictive...
I think I'll look at availability for March........;0)
